Tornadoes and the Damage They Cause

6/7/2019 (Permalink)

Thanks to pop culture movies and television shows, people are terrified of tornadoes. On average, 800 tornadoes hit the United States every year. They kill 80 people and injure 1,500 more on average. The most violent tornadoes have wind speeds up to 250 mph and leave a damage path up to 50 miles long. Tornadoes or twisters rarely hit southern Texas. Unfortunately north Texas can get hit pretty frequently. Tornadoes are created when cool winds from the north collide with he warm winds of the south. This is why it primarily happens to the states that reside the middle of the map, also know as "Tornado Ally". The official areas of Tornado Alley are not clearly defined, but its core extends from northern Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska, into South Dakota.
