We Can Save Your Commercial Property After Fire Damage

Resources Can Help Improve Restoration Of Commercial Fire Damage In Carson City

Fire damage in a commercial center with multiple offices or other businesses creates major inconvenience by disrupting regular operations. Even if the fire does not affect every part of the building, the interdependency in such a facility means that the rest of the businesses operate at limited capacity or stop operating altogether. Restoring normalcy quickly is crucial, underlining the need to expedite the repair work and cleanup processes that follow such an incident. We offer professional fire restoration services for commercial centers in Katy, Cypress, Champions and 1960.
Issues affected access to damaged areas can delay commercial fire damage restoration. Facilities such as theaters and conference halls or even parking garages have large wall surfaces or high ceilings, which present several problems unless restoration crews have the right equipment to ease access. Apart from regular ladders, our SERVPRO technicians use self-propelled man lifts, which not only facilitate access to high walls and ceilings but also ease our back-and-forth movements as we remove debris and clean up areas damaged by the fire.
Fire affects surfaces in different ways, including depositing layers of soot and other debris, as well as, charring the materials on the surfaces. Such areas require thorough cleaning, which in most cases includes mechanical abrasion to loosen the debris - a tedious process that can take substantial time. Our SERVPRO technicians use various types of scrubbing equipment, both manual and automated, to eliminate light and stubborn deposits. We also have pressure washers that simplify cleaning the soiled areas.
In addition to deposits left on surfaces, fires also lead to bad odors in the affected buildings. It is impossible to work or serve clients in such an environment. Efficient removal of fire debris and soils may require more than mechanical abrasion and plain water. Our SERVPRO technicians use professional cleaning agents that change the soils chemically, easing removal. We might also incorporate heating into the cleaning process because heat speeds up chemical processes, improving the overall outcome.
To resume normalcy faster after fire ruins a commercial building, call SERVPRO of Katy/Cypress/Champions/1960 to help. We’re Faster to Any Size Disaster.

Cleanup and Reconstruction Needed?

4/15/2021 (Permalink)

Flooding can ruin a property. Owners look at standing water and sometimes want to give up. Make sure to call a professional restoration service to restore your home after damage caused by burst pipes or other failed plumbing and appliances. SERVPRO not only remediates damage but rebuilds so that your property is like new.

Regardless of where the damage came from, SERVPRO is the water damage restoration and reconstruction company to use in your area. We are fully licensed in the Houston area to perform the tasks needed to return a home to its pre-disaster condition. After the water has been pumped out, we continue to carry out an inspection from the foundation to the roof. Here are a few of the more common damages and how we rebuild after a disaster.

First things first, we replace damaged plumbing. Until we stop the source of the water, it is a waste of time to affect any other repairs. Our specialists are fully trained to replace bathroom fixtures, install new dishwashers or lay new intake pipes anywhere in the home. If the problem was a failed septic tank that backed up into the home or across the outside property, we can remove the old tank and set a new one, to include a new concrete cradle, in place.

Next, come the floors. If our inspection finds damage to the sub-floor, our technicians pull out each piece of the damaged frame and replace it. If necessary, we go down to the foundation and relevel the dirt or concrete to put down a surface without rolls or raised points. Our technicians have years of experience in framing and laying new wood floors that increase the value of the home and are appealing to everyone who sees them.

When it comes to walls, hanging new sheetrock is only the surface of what we do. Before putting up the new panels, we replace every bit of wall framing that shows water damage. Although we do not move load-bearing walls, we can expand closets or decrease a formal dining area to increase the living room for a young, growing family.

Finally, there is the roof. Our response team not only replaces damaged or missing tiles but also removes and installs new support beams underneath them. With a nationwide network of equipment at our disposal, we can even lay in a new main support beam if needed.

Rebuilding your home can be a lengthy process, but hiring the right company for the job can make it much less painful.

SERVPRO of Katy/Cypress/Champions/1960 has the experience, training, and equipment need to help you rebuild from the ground up.

Important Steps To Restoring Your Water Damaged Property

3/15/2021 (Permalink)

mold spores Water enters the affected area increasing humidity levels, which then provides the conditions needed for mold spores to prosper.

Guarding Against The After Effects Of Commercial Water Damage In Carson City

Relying on your staff to perform restoration services may seem financially prudent, but without the right expertise, it can cause further problems. Using a professional service with extensive experience allows you to solve a problem on the first attempt and gets your business back to doing what it does best, serving customers.

Over the years our team has helped businesses with commercial water damage in Carson City, becoming experts in the field along the way. We know that commercial property issues are costing revenue and can draw on all our experience to ensure an efficient, painless service. You know your business best, so we make an effort to communicate with you every step of the way.

Clearing away water is our priority, but guarding against secondary damages is equally essential. Secondary damages are the result of a chain reaction. Water enters the affected area increasing humidity levels, which then provides the conditions needed for mold spores to prosper. A reaction like this can happen in as little as 12 hours and, in ideal conditions, mold can grow full-size colonies within 24 to 48 hours.

Monitoring humidity levels is an essential part of mitigating mold growth. As a rule of thumb, humidity levels need to be brought down below 60% to guard against secondary mold damage. SERVPRO can do this using moisture meters as well as dehumidifiers to control indoor air quality.

Areas that are challenging to reach, such as gaps between floorboards or behind fittings, can be tackled using extraction wands. These tools blast hot air into smaller spaces where moisture could be residing. Getting the job done at the first time of asking is part of what we do at SERVPRO. Not only can we remove any excess water, but we can also guard against secondary damages that might not be noticeable until long after the initial water damage occurred.

Contact SERVPRO of Katy/Cypress/Champions/1960 at (281) 469-2957 for an emergency service that can protect your business from secondary damages.

How Matterport Technology Helps Protect You After a Loss

2/25/2021 (Permalink)

hurricane-damaged hospital's ground floor in 3D Insurance estimators were able to capture a hurricane-damaged hospital's ground floor in 3D while crews were able to mitigate damage (Matterport)

As we've all seen this month in the historic winter freeze heavily impacting many states across America, property owners' assets are always at risk in the hands of the unpredictable. Regardless of whether you run a mom-and-pop shop or an industrial empire, property damage can deal a devastating blow to your business, especially if your insurance doesn't cover it. Recovering property from a disaster is a long and complicated process.

Depending on size, claims can take anywhere from two to six months at minimum, and may involve numerous visits to a site by an appraisal professional who must detail the extent of damage in order for you to receive full compensation. The larger the claim, the larger the hassle one faces throughout the insurance process. The finite details matter when taking inventory of damages, but reporting on minor elements (like water damaged walls after a flood, for example) can be a daunting task even for the most experienced claims adjuster. Using a 3D camera to create a virtual model can dramatically increase the comprehensiveness of documentation, providing a level of dimensionality and detail that matters when it comes to insurance claims.

For the past 50 years, pen, pencil, and ruler have been the standard of appraisal professionals across the industry. Photographs and videos are used as well, but they are often incomplete and lack context and depth. The invention of 3D technology makes it easier to respond to natural disasters, allowing quick deployment of repair crews and restoration of livelihoods. This equipment lets property owners sleep better at night knowing they're protected against loss. We have adopted 3D scans performed by Matterport, a fully immersive end-to-end VR platform, to capture the entirety of properties.

Matterport is a 4K camera system made to create schematic floor plans and 3D virtual environments of any physical space, both interior and exterior.

Matterport makes SERVPRO even more efficient, allowing us to estimate repairs and inspect for loss prevention faster, better and more accurately.

Auditing precisely what a business has lost in a disaster could mean the difference between immediate financial failure or recovery, so being able to present an accurate and complete record is key to speeding the claims process and recouping costs on damages. 3D scans freeze a property owner's most valuable assets in time so that property owners can get back on their feet again – often before their insurance claim is finalized. Without this documentation, any move to repair a property could protract a claims process by "disturbing" the scene of damage meaning that if/when appraisers return, they won't see the property in the state it was in after the initial damage occurred.

The Matterport system allows 99% accurate measurements with the ability to share walk-throughs of the property with carriers and owners that aren't physically present. This technology is transforming our industry.

Having a loss is costly, time-consuming, and stressful.  Understanding how to navigate the insurance claim process, selecting restoration professionals, and how to manage life while your home or business is completely disrupted is made difficult when you are not the expert. Matterport allows SERVPRO to help you become more involved and informed in all those processes. Our goal is to empower the property owner with information and ease the process. We assist in communication with your adjuster and insurance company, and this technology allows you to see exactly what we are working with.

When an adjuster misses a piece of damage in the home, our estimator is able to pull up the 3D imaging and point to every bit of information needed to get approvals for repair without any additional costs to the property owner.

Another great benefit to Matterport is Cortex, the artificial intelligence software otherwise that blocks all personal information from images. For example, if you have a photo of your children on the fridge that you would prefer to remain private, Cortex blocks out faces automatically so no one will see images of anyone in your home during the photo taking process.

The ability to share the virtual tour is very easy as well. Once your images have been completed, you can ask SERVPRO to share the link for your viewing. This is a wonderful tool if you don't live in the same area as the property damaged. Many owners have properties that are damaged while on vacation, or it may be your seasonal home. Perhaps you manage a business from another city. This allows you to understand the extent of damages in detail, which also provides a better path of communication between you and your insurance carrier.

When You Choose a Restoration Company That Uses Matterport Technology, Such As SERVPRO

You get an accurate and comprehensive way to document your home or business and any assets within them, and expedite your claim should you have to file one.

  • Get a complete record of your property's condition.

  • Accurate inventory of personal items and other assets within your home or building.

  • Reduce discrepancies and disputes with insurance carriers.

  • Expedite the entire claims process, reducing the need to provide documentation or receipts in some instances.

Using Matterport technology, SERVPRO is able to digitally capture the entirety of your damaged property in 3D immediately, allowing extraction and drying crews to get to work on mitigation as soon as possible which will not only allow your business to get back up and running sooner, but also prevent further damage such as mold growth from water damaged materials. In as little as one day, we can give a detailed and much more accurate estimate of damages, allowing you to recoup your repair costs and us to start work right away.

Find a Trusted Professional Cleaning Service For Your Commercial Property

Many people are hesitant to go into commercial buildings for fear of being around people who may have been exposed to COVID-19. SERVPRO of Katy/Cypress/Champions/1960 is part of Certified: SERVPRO Cleaned. Our program is a method meant to rid properties of viral pathogens. It is a 3 C’s step by step program we provide for businesses: Consult, Clean, and Certify. When a commercial business has gone through our program, they will receive a decal sticker on their window to show their customers and employees that they are in a disinfected area.
Whether you're looking to re-open a business, keep your property regularly disinfected, or wanting to reassure occupants of a safe holiday space, a professional cleaning can help relieve COVID-19 anxieties.

There has never been a better time to re-evaluate your cleaning policies and procedures. Whether it's an office, residential building, or your place of business, cleanliness is now the highest priority.

If you want true peace of mind about potential exposure to COVID 19, you should find a professional cleaning service.

Here's how to do it!

Find a Trusted Professional Cleaning Service

Professional cleaners are in high demand because of the pandemic. If you are going to trust a professional cleaning service, you need to be sure they are qualified for the job.

Look for a service that has experience cleaning spaces like yours. A company specializing in individual homes may not be the right choice for your office building or vice versa.

Read reviews for the cleaning service before hiring them. If other people have had a good experience, chances are you will too.

Make sure the professional cleaning service has procedures with regard to PPE and other precautions when entering your space. Most services now have clear guidelines on protection for safety and the sanitation of the property.

One-time cleaning is not going to be enough. Talk with the cleaning service about setting up a regular cleaning schedule weekly or bi-weekly.

Be Proactive

A professional cleaning service will make a big difference in the safety of your home or workplace. But it doesn't mean that you can be complacent about other sanitation measures.

In between cleanings, you should clean surfaces, including door handles or elevator buttons. Any surface that people could potentially come in contact with should be disinfected.

Promote handwashing in bathrooms and kitchens. You can use sticky notes, posters, or any other signage that might be helpful to remind people to wash their hands.

Facial coverings should be worn in offices and shared spaces of larger residential buildings (apartments, condos, assisted living facilities).

Keep sanitizing agents available in areas where handwashing may not be convenient.

Limit Exposure Opportunities

If you are working in an office building, consider having some or all employees work remotely if possible. Try to host meetings virtually instead of in-person.

If you must hold a meeting in-person, inform every participant of the precautions, and collect contact information in case someone does get sick.

You can limit your exposure at home by reducing the number of people inside and encouraging guests to wear masks. You can also offer to host outdoor gatherings to reduce the likelihood of the virus spreading.

Be Clean, Be Healthy, Be Safe

These are uncertain times we are living in, but if you can promote a clean, safe space, it will ease anxiety. Covid-19 cases are likely to spike after the holidays, so stay safe and keep these guidelines in mind. The best proactive measure you can take is to find a professional cleaning service you can trust, and be diligent about cleaning regularly. Take precautions to prevent the spread of the virus by protecting yourself and your community at all times.

Challenges of Restoring Damaged Municipal Buildings

9/15/2020 (Permalink)

commercial building windows Your community depends upon the municipal buildings being open. SERVPRO has the experience needed to quickly restore Houston's buildings.

Standing Water Threatens to Municipal Buildings

We’re Faster To Any Size Disaster, and that is something that we show Houston municipal properties, businesses, and residences every day.

SERVPRO maintains a 24/7 emergency line to handle all pressing situations as they happen. We are prepared to spring into action at a moment’s notice when the circumstances demand it. As the management for city property, any emergencies that occur require your fast response and reaction to get addressed appropriately. In many cases, water loss incidents can be among the most damaging of these potential threats. Water can spread quickly throughout the building and affect multiple offices and waiting areas.

As much as water removal may seem straightforward, there are many considerations in choosing the ideal extraction approach. For the sake of getting the building back to full capacity as promptly as possible, many entrust properties to the fast and experienced response of our SERVPRO technicians. With a growing inventory of premier recovery equipment, we can address both standing water and the drying to follow while maintaining as minimal of a presence as possible.

Water extraction, when performed immediately upon the arrival of qualified professionals, can protect the installed materials and contents of your damaged areas. While some areas of the building feature low pile carpeting that can get dried and restored quickly with the combined use of our air movers and dehumidifiers, other materials like marble require more intricate approaches. Many assume that because of its finish that marble does not absorb water, but it has a higher porosity than most types of natural stone used in construction.

While it can take some time to prove overly damaging and detrimental to this flooring material, allowing even mild saturation to persist can alter the composition of the marble. In most cases, this can result in cosmetic concerns like discolorations and etching. Our SERVPRO team can utilize our specialized tools like drying mats to slowly draw out the moisture from this material to reduce the possibility of unappealing aesthetic changes or marring.

Water removal from marble flooring and carpeting in office areas presents a unique challenge for our SERVPRO of Katy/Cypress/Champions/1960 team when we first arrive. No matter how severe the circumstances, you can count on our professionals to help. Once water extraction is complete, we also offer reconstruction and rebuilding services to address more extensive damage so your restoration process is as seamless as possible.

Desiccant Dehumidifiers Used for Commercial Property Restoration

8/3/2020 (Permalink)

Desiccant Dehumidifiers Desiccant Dehumidifiers

What is a Desiccant Dehumidifier & What are the Advantages of Using One

Air contains water vapor, also known as humidity. Too much or too little humidity can be harmful to the human body and to the indoor home environment. An ideal indoor humidity is between 40% and 60%. Because mold grows where there is a lot moisture, running a dehumidifier in the areas of your property that have experienced water damage or that are naturally damp, such as a basement, can decrease the occurrence of mold by transforming the damp area into a dry area after only a couple of days.

What is a Desiccant Dehumidifier & How Does It Work?

Desiccant dehumidifiers are an alternative to common dehumidifiers. Unlike the common dehumidifier, which works by compressor and refrigerant, desiccant dehumidifiers are made up of five components, which do not include compression or a refrigerant: the desiccant itself, a rotor, a condenser, a heater, and one or more blowers.

The desiccant itself is a chemical that ADsorbs, versus absorbs, moisture. Adsorbing is holding onto the molecules of a gas or liquid as a thin film on the outside surface. Simply put, the desiccant pulls the moisture from the air and then releases it when heated. The rotor, or the rotating drum, is made up of corrugated layers, as well as flat sheet layers coated with the desiccant. The moist air is filtered through this desiccant rotor, which processes the warm humid air, absorbing the moisture. Then, the heater warms the humid air, which then condenses at room temperature and drips into a bucket.

Basically, the blower pulls in the humid air; the rotor absorbs the humidity; the heater dries out the air; the remaining moisture condenses into a collection bucket. It’s a mechanical process with no harmful exhaust.

SERVPRO of Katy/Cypress/Champions/1960 uses desiccant humidifiers when we remediate commercial damage. If you have any water damage in your Cypress home or business, do not hesitate to call us at (281) 469-2957

Commercial Equipment

6/12/2018 (Permalink)

When the time arrives, and you need to call your friendly professionals at SERVPRO of Katy/Cypress, don’t be afraid to ask question about our equipment. We at SERVPRO are educated and proud when it comes to the equipment we use on small and large losses. One of the pieces of hardware we use is a wet/dry abrasive blast system. Abrasive blasting is an effective cleaning method for fire and smoke restoration, mold mitigation and remediation, graffiti removal, surface prep and cleaning and odor elimination. The wet/dry abrasive blast system uses compressed air mixed with an abrasive material to provide a pressurized stream of media capable of cleaning a variety of surfaces. The blast gun and hose have integrated wet/dry connections allowing for Low Dust Emission blasting when its needed. All SERVPRO technicians are required to wear proper (PPE) or personal protective equipment while operating this unit. This machine is required to be emptied and clean after every use. This is one of many pieces of equipment that SERVPRO use on large commercial losses.

Commercial Equipment Part II

SERVPRO technicians arrive on site in many different conditions. We have tools that we use on all kinds of jobs, large and small. One of these tools is known as a circuit breaker finder. They are used to locate circuit breakers and test receptacle wiring. SERVPRO uses this device locate branch circuit breakers without flipping breakers to other circuits, to confirm proper wiring and to test ground fault receptacle operation. In layman terms, its gives the technicians the ability to finder the proper breaker with hurting themselves or causing more damage to the situation. This is correctly done by, plugging the transmitter into the outlet and trace for correct breakers at the electrical box. Transmitter injects a signal onto circuit which can be detected by the receiver. The receiver will beep when the signal is detected. The transmitter will also read receptacle wiring and test (GFCI) or Ground Fault Circuit Interrupt, conditions. These are one of many tools used by the professionals at SERVPRO to better insure the safety of the technicians and the civilian crews on site.

So, let us start with a simple question; what is classified as a commercial building? A commercial building differs from a residential building in the fact that it is not where someone lives but where a business is. Pricing can vary as well, when it come to a commercial job. That covers what a commercial building is and how it is different from a residential building (house).

The secret to commercial restoration is to stay organized

Now that we have that covered, let’s go over what makes doing restoration on a commercial building so important. When we perform restoration on a residential property it is extremely important to us because someone has invited us to their house to make it livable again. Usually there are very important things around the house that have high sentimental value. They must live here or are staying in a hotel. They want us to finish our work as soon as possible. Having said how important residential properties are commercial properties are important too. These properties are a source of income for people. So everyday this place must be closed due to our work is a day they didn’t make money plus they are paying for our services which cannot be fun as well.

The secret to commercial restoration is to stay organized

Let’s go over some of the work that we do on commercial properties and do some scenarios. Recently; hurricane Harvey hit Houston, Texas and devastated our city. There were a lot of commercial properties that were closed due to the hurricane. I actually remember that the McDonalds was open next to my house and I could not believe it. It was so nice to go to a place to get hot food. Having said that we (SERVPRO of Katy Cypress) did a lot of work on some commercial properties. There were schools, businesses, and government buildings flooded. I know of one school that is still closed due to the flooding and this is devastating. These kids will be going to school well into the summer. There are businesses that have gone out of business due to the flooding because they just could not recover from the lack of cash flow. I know Drink Houston is out of business for good.

Commercial Building part IV

The secret to commercial restoration is to stay organized

This shows the importance of timeliness for restoration on a commercial building. WE (SERVPRO of Katy Cypress) work by the one four eight policy. This means that we will have you in contact with us within an hour, be on site within 4 hours, and have a full scope of services within eight hours. Timeliness is key. We also use a time and materials software that is second to none. This helps us keep the client aware of everything that is going on and helps us mitigate costs to keep the cost of our job as low as possible. So, if you have a business and a disaster happens just remember a couple of key things. First you need to get this fixed as soon as possible. Second you need to use a trustworthy company that will be able to handle the size of this job (ask your insurance agent who you should use). Lastly, you are not going to fail if you have a plan and stick to it.

Desiccant Dehumidifers

Desiccant Dehumidifers

SERVPRO of Katy Cypress and Champions 1960 Desiccant dehumidifiers have many applications in restorative drying, but they are most commonly used to dry materials such as hardwood floors,  and lathe walls, or other dense material. Desiccant effectively accelerate drying inside walls when used in conjunction with air movers. Desiccant dehumidifiers depend upon a chemical attraction to remove water from air. They produce the lowest vapor pressure of any dehumidifier. Moist air passes through a desiccant rotor collecting on silica gel material embedded on rotor. They are for indoor use only and do not operate at air temperature over 120 f. Avoid damages or clogging of rotor, always operate with clean Merv 8 filter. They operate vertically or horizontally , if necessary, use extension cords with minimum 6 AGE rated not less than 9600 watts.

Desiccant Dehumidifer

When a commercial property has a pipe burst it is different than when a house or a residential property has a pipe burst. Inside this commercial building you have much more space for the water to run. A huge property is now flooded. Not only is this huge property flooded but it is also now closed for business. Every single day that this place is flooded and closed is a day of potential money lost as well. That is why we, at SERVPRO, use desiccant dehumidifiers. These dehumidifiers are larger and dry at any temperature more efficiently than your regular lgr dehumidifiers. If you have a business make sure that you understand the difference between these types of dehumidifiers. If you live in Houston and own a business make sure you call SERVPRO if you have a flood, pipe burst, or any other type of disaster hit your business.

Commercial Restoration

Often when something goes wrong to your property it is your home. It is the place in which you sleep and cook your dinner. It is your sanctuary. It is your home. While your home is a wonderful place that is extremely important it isn’t a place in which you pay for your living. It isn’t a place that makes your income, unless you are renting it out or about to sell it. Your home does not make you any money. When something goes wrong with a commercial building however it is a place that is very precious. I am not saying it is more important than a residential property but what I am saying is a commercial building costs money each day it is closed. Each day that this business is closed is a day that has lost money.

When something goes wrong with a commercial property timing is everything. While timing is everything on every job it is under a bigger magnifying glass during commercial properties because the longer this property is closed the more money the business owner is losing. Schools Out

Commercial Water Restoration and Fire Restoration Team

Schools Out

Last year had an unprecedented amount of rainfall. All across the world had the same problem; too much precipitation. If you looked in any part of the world you saw rainfall and floods being a problem. There were flood problems in France. Hurricanes in the Pacific Ocean and the eastern side of the world. There were hail storms in the north and rainstorms in South America. Luckily Houston didn’t get any storms. If only that were true. Houston had the giant rainstorm that everyone knows about last year but there were also many mini floods (in comparison to the flood that wreaked havoc on the city of Houston, Texas) that happened throughout the year.

Here at SERVPRO of Katy Cypress, we specialize in water restoration, fire restoration, mold remediation, and any type of cleaning that you could ask for. Having said that we were shocked with the amount of rain and storms that hit the city. With all of this water we were up to our eyeballs (metaphorically) in water and work. As SERVPRO of Katy Cypress, we were well equipped to handle this amount of rainfall. The hidden variable in the precipitation and flood problem was the amount of construction and building that is occurring in the greater Houston and Katy, Texas area. Where there use to be grass and trees and dirt there is now concrete and streets.

If you have ever poured water onto sand or soil you know that the water goes into the soil. This is a basic principle in farming. If you have ever poured water onto concrete, you see that it doesn’t get absorbed by the concrete. It flows like a river. That is a basic principal of what a liquid does. So, while we are part of this community and are ecstatic about the growth and development of the schools and businesses it also causes a problem for water flow.

-The list of our services are water restoration, fire restoration, mold mitigation, storm response, move outs and contents restoration, electronic restoration, document drying, contents claim inventory service, reconstruction, carpet cleaning, upholstery cleaning, air duct and HVAC cleaning, deodorization, biohazard and crime scene clean up, and vandalism cleaning in the greater Houston, Katy, Alief, Cypress, Champions, 1960, highway 6, Bellaire, Myerland area and many more!-

Schools Out Part II

Schools Out Part II

That’s where SERVPRO of Katy Cypress and Champions 1960 comes in. We as a company specialize in water restoration and fire restoration. We saw a lot of business and houses that have never had a flood or water damage get flooded and they did not know why. While preparation is key there is little you can do when water starts to reach your doorstep. A few things you can do are move your electronics and valuables to higher ground. Take a profile of your building to know where these valuables are, where the utility shut offs are, and where an escape is just in case a fire happens. Next have our (SERVPRO of Katy Cypress and Champions 1960) number saved to your phone so you can call us as soon as possible so you can get the process of the restoration started as fast as you can. Timing is everything.

Now we (SERVPRO of Katy Cypress and Champions 1960) were getting calls from businesses constantly that have never had this problem (floods and water damage). One of the commercial buildings that called us was a school that is going to remain un named. They called us during the week before spring break last year saying they had a flood and that it was a first time something like this has ever happened. This school was also having another wing added to the school and having a lot of construction done to the school building. With all of this happening the soil was now concrete. This concrete acted as a highway for the water to go straight into the school building.

Once the school gets the construction finished the water wont flow right into the building but while it is being done it will continue to receive flood damage when it rains like it did that week. After doing a walk through with the school we found that there was a lot of dirty water in the entire left side of the school.

Commercial Water Restoration and Fire Restoration Team

Schools Out Part III

As a water restoration company (SERVPRO of Katy Cypress and Champions 1960) we did what we always do. We did a walkthrough and found the point of origin. We used a moisture detector to detect all the moisture in the building and found where the building did not have water damage. Knowing that this was CAT 3 water we knew that we were going to have to remove porous contents and see what was restorable and what was not restorable.  There were plenty of porous materials that were restorable. Most notably were the books. There were hundreds if not thousands of books that received water damage from the flood. Luckily, we have the perfect tool for that. We use a freeze dryer that uses sublimation to dry paper. Carpet had to be torn out. Dry wall was soaked. We removed these porous materials and restored all the restorable materials.

After that the next step is to perform laser measurements of the building to determine how much drying equipment is needed. This is the easy part that we enjoy because while we take pride in our work in helping our community it is still hard work. Measuring a building is easier than ripping out carpet. Having said that this is possibly the most important part because it determines the exact amount of drying equipment that is necessary.

The school was dried so quickly that the kids didn’t even have to miss school (I’m sure they appreciated out fast work). We dried the school quickly and safely. We restored the restorable materials and helped keep kids in class. Here at SERVPRO of Katy Cypress and Champions 1960 we take pride in our work and our chance to help the community. Whether it is a small carpet clean or it is a giant flood at a school we will do our best work on the job. We will restore the job and make it look like a flood didn’t even happen.

Commercial Water Damage Strikes Again

One of 4 floors affected by the water damage

The unfortunate tenants of this high-rise building came to work one morning to find standing water in their office. I'm sure you are asking yourself "how in the world could something like this happen on the 17th floor of a building"?

It can happen to any building at any time and this monster sized water damage occurred after one urinal on the 19th floor malfunctioned. That is correct, ONE urinal! Water flows downhill and this building is now all too familiar with that basic law of physics.

The good news for them is that SERVPRO of Katy/Cypress was called and our crews have been working day and night to restore the property to its original state, and it only required 5 days of drying. Go Team!
